Sustainability: circular economy and recycling in the aluminium sector

Aluminium is one of the most abundant metals in the earth's crust and is present in our daily lives as a modern society.

Navarra is committed to improving processes, procedures and equipment in order to minimise emissions. Aluminium production has an impact on the environment: locally and globally due to greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions which have an impact on the environment

As part of our environmental responsibility, we are constantly developing practices to minimise the impact of our industry on the environment and climate.

Recycling aluminium
Aluminium is considered a 100% recyclable material because it does not degrade in the recycling process. If one kilo of aluminium is recycled, theoretically one kilo will be recovered. In addition, recycling one tonne of aluminium uses only 5% of the energy that would be needed to produce the same amount of primary aluminium, meaning that recycling aluminium saves 95% of electricity. Aluminium is one of the most abundant metals in the earth's crust and is present in our daily lives as modern society.

Element of the Circular Economy
The Circular Economy is based on the reduction, reuse, recovery and recycling of materials and energy in an integrated process.
The Circular Economy gives new meaning to the notion of growth by emphasising the benefits for society as a whole. It deconstructs economic activity from the consumption of finite resources by eliminating waste from the system as a matter of principle.

The circular economy model produces economic, natural and social capital, based on three principles:

  • Eliminating waste and pollution from the start of the process
  • Keeping products and materials in constant use
  • Regenerating natural systems.
